Interhouse Cross Country

The Interhouse Cross Country Competition took place on 24 March.

The day started off with pleasant weather to the delight of all the 3km runners who started the day’s running. This distance is run by 11 & 12 boys and 11, 12, 13 girls.There were 25 entries.

 In the following race, 7 runners took part in 8km and simultaneously we had the one 13 year old and six 14 boys running the 4km stretch. The results for the 4km race were as follows:

After the gruelling 8km, the runners came in as follows:

Men Junior (18 – 19yrs)
1 Luke Allen (34:05,6), 2 Vuyani Ngcobo, 3 Matthias Heckel

Race 3 was a very exciting event as all the little children aged 6 – 8 years take part in the 1km mob race. The results however were split into the different ages. This mob of very nervous enthusiasts consisted of 31 runners. The results were as follows:

The fourth race 4 Junior women took on the 6km stretch while there were 9 Youth women daring the 4km. Their results:

Race 5 saw the 16 girls aged 14 and 15 years running the 4km race while at the same time the 9 and 10 year old girls ran their 2km race.

The weather then rapidly started changing and a decision was made to combine the 6th and 7th races. This meant that 7 boys aged 9 and 10 years would run the 2km race; 9 boys aged 15 years were to run 4km and another 10 Youth Men runners would run the 6km. This was the outcome:

To top off the day in a bit of fun, there were 2 fun mob races of distance 1km. The races are pre-entered by runners of any house and any age. All runners making it over the finish line within the pre-set time limit; which for girls is 6 minutes and for the boys 5 minutes; will contribute points towards their house overall score.

Murray won the day with 281 points. Morris followed with 262 points.

This brought us to the conclusion of a wonderful day of cheering, running and just having fun.
