Masimbonge Mlaba, Emma Schobben and Kim Stegen represented the school at the National Bridge Building Competition, held at the ANEW Hotel and Conference Centre in Gauteng from 20-22 August.
This year’s challenge required teams to adapt their bridge designs to accommodate two traffic lanes, necessitating the construction of three trusses instead of the traditional two. The team rose to the challenge with an innovative and well-engineered design. Their bridge successfully carried an impressive 98.7 kg, earning them second place nationally.
Beyond the outstanding result, the competition provided a valuable learning experience and an opportunity to engage with some of the country’s top young engineering minds. The team found the event both rewarding and inspiring, and they represented the school with distinction.
