The KZNSCA Provincial tournament took place on 5 September. Three weeks before the tournament the players underwent intensive training sessions conducted by Miss Elfrieda Fleischmann. It was a most enjoyable and profitable experience for everyone. Twenty two learners participated in the provincial tournament and they all fared very well. Six medals were won by players from Domino. Gabriel Khwela, Timothy Olsen and Iliya Matveyuk won gold medals. Cornelis Grobler, a silver and Jonas Graf and Micah Khoza won bronze medals. The medal winners, as well as a number of other players were selected to represent KZN at the SACSSA National Chess Tournament that took place in Boksburg on 17 & 18 October. Cornelis Grobler came first in the under 21 category. Iliya Matveyuk came third in the under 12 category. The following learners came in the top ten in their different age groups: Jonas Graf, Gabriel Maphanga, Khauhelo Nkala and Timothy Olsen. Some players have been invited to participate in two International tournaments in 2009.
