Avon Williams proudly represented South Africa at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 10 to 19 July 2026. The international competition brought together talented young chemists from more than 90 countries.
Avon earned his place on the South African team following his strong performance in the 2025 South African Science Olympiad, commonly known as SASO. In preparation for the international event, he received specialised tutoring at the University of KwaZulu-Natal during term 2.
The trip gave Avon the opportunity to test his chemistry knowledge at an international level, meet students from around the world and experience the history and culture of Uzbekistan. It was a rich, rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable experience that will remain a highlight of his academic journey.
