Diabetes facts
Over 4.5 million South Africans live with diabetes, and 1 in 9 people already has the condition. Worryingly, more young people are being diagnosed every year.
Diabetes is a condition where the body struggles to control blood sugar levels. There are different types, but Type 2 diabetes is the most common, accounting for 90% of cases. It often develops due to lifestyle factors and is largely preventable.
If left untreated, diabetes can lead to serious complications affecting many parts of the body and even increase the risk of premature death. Almost half of people with diabetes don’t know they have it.

Prevention starts with healthy habits:
Get active
Eat healthy
Choose water over sugary drinks
Get tested regularly

Together we can make healthier choices and reduce the risk of diabetes in our communities.
