SAICE hosted the 2025 Aqualibrium national finals at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg on 8,9 May. 14 participating schools from across the country participated.
The challenge? In two hours, design and build a working water distribution network using the materials provided, then evenly distribute three litres of water into three containers. To finish their systems with the fewest number of penalty points, the students had to think like engineers, use mathematics to guide their decisions, and work well together as a team. The competition tested the learners’ grasp of mathematics and science and challenged their soft skills.
Top performers were from Blue Eagle Secondary Johannesburg. Domino Servite School took 2nd place and Lamawandla High School, third. Congratulations to Rudi Combrink, Tom Joubert and Kai Vermaak.
