SAICE WATER EQUILIBRIUM

Eight teams registered to participate in the DSS Water Equilibrium on 27 February.

The first round was a quiz round. The competitors were required to read a case study related to the competition and answer multiple choice questions, based on the case study. The top three teams proceeded to the next round.

In the second round the teams were required to build a water system, using a sixteen-point grid, aimed at equally distributing three litres of water from a source container to three reservoirs of the same size.

Team 1: Emmanuel Meyer, Aaron Vermaak, Julian Vermaak
Team 2: Joshua Combrink, Kwanele Hlophe, Thandowenkosi Tembe
Team 3: Ludwig McGill, Tim Waltz, Stephan Vilciu

The teams proceeded to the regional competition in Pietermaritzburg on 29 April where they performed extremely well. Out of 13 teams, DSS achieved fifth, third and second positions. Although a team from DSS will not attend the national competition in Johannesburg this year, the learners gained valuable experience and won cash prizes.
