First Aid Course

On 25 June 2008 the Foundation Phase attended a First Aid course which was presented by Miss Fleischman and Miss Theron. First Aid can help people when they get hurt. Often when someone gets hurt it is a small thing, like a scratched leg or a bleeding nose. But sometimes is it a big thing like a broken bone or a snake bite. At the course we learnt how to take care of burns, cuts and bleeding noses. Miss Theron taught us how to check the pulse and to hold up the body part which has a bleeding wound so that the blood can flow back into the body. Then she showed us how to put someone’s arm into a sling. We each had a turn to put a friend’s arm into a sling. It was lots of fun. Miss Fleischmann even showed us a short DVD about First Aid. Now if I have to care for someone’s wound, I think I will have a better idea of what to do.
