COUNTRY CHRISTMAS MARKET

The build-up to the Country Christmas Market was intense, with setup and takedown in rain but lovely days in between. The festive atmosphere, capped by a spectacular fireworks display, made the market a memorable celebration of Christmas cheer.

Visitors were welcome on 31 October and 1 November. The stalls did not disappoint. Timber and Tone, a new stall, showcased home décor and wooden creations which were quite stunning. The Clay and Art Gallery hosted arty and clay activities for children which was something new. The Preloved stall had loads of stock and proved to be very popular. There were many customers at the stall searching for that special bargain. The aQuelle/Emseni/Bonlé stall broke all innovation barriers with their stall – they used the horse and trailer of a Volvo FH 520. The trailer and the area on the ground in front of the trailer, under a stretch tent, was converted into the sales area of the stall. Wooden pallets took customers from ground to truck level. It made for a unique shopping experience. Pets Galore, also a new stall, offered a variety of pets. This stall proved popular with children. I am sure some parents succumbed to requests for new pets at home albeit unwillingly.

Pony rides, inflatable slides and games, the shooting range, the trail, the kids activity tent and numerous stall activities kept children occupied and happy. Sweets galore, candy floss and toys added to the exciting mix. Toyland was a child’s dream steam train complete with engine and trucks and places to sit and have photos taken. What a treat!

The fireworks display and sparkler experience was something worth watching. The lights, the trees and the food created a wonderful market atmosphere which has become part of the Country Christmas Market appeal. We will see you there next time when we do it all over again because Christmas keeps on giving.
