THE START

The skill of gardening and growing things is learned by doing and the most practical skills in the world are learned in the field, not the classroom.

At the beginning of May each grade was given two pieces of land which required weeding, fertilising and cultivation. This was a mammoth assignment especially as most learners have never had the responsibility of any cultivation other than a small vegetable patch at home.

Gardening, as anyone knows, is hard work. It is muddy. There are blisters. There are pokes and bangs with spades and forks. It is hot. You get thirsty. Progress is slow but steady…
