INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS MEETING

Morris began the day as the favourite to win the competition and led with a comfortable margin. Slowly but surely, Murray athletes achieved good positions and broke records until eventually the two teams were neck and neck. In the end, green was the new gold – Murray won the day with a score of 1939 narrowly beating Morris by 30 points.

Interhouse athletics always has a delightful atmosphere and the weather cooperated nicely! It was a delightful change from the 2021 competition when no spectators were permitted and do you remember there was no competition in 2020?

The athletes excelled and broke 21 records. Morris broke 14 records and Murray, 7. Most notably, a record set in 1991 by G13 4x100m relay of 59.90 was broken by the 2022 team who ran it in 59.17. A 1995 record set by H Ngubane and equalled by D Maphanga of 14.5 in the G13 100m was broken by Kayla Witthoft with a time of 13.62. A 20yr old record set by J Stegen in 2002 for G13 Long Jump of 4.54m was broken by Kayla Witthoft with her winning jump of 4.71m. Aaron Vermaak bettered the 2006 B15 Discus record by 6.29m.

Kayla Witthoft won the Jnr Victrix Ludorum with an ASA score of 3567
Alexander Gideon won the Jnr Victor Ludorum with an ASA score of 2974
Liezl Green was awarded the Snr Victrix Ludorum with an ASA score of 3034
Sphumelele Ntombela won the Snr Victor Ludorum with an ASA score of 2784

Congratulations to every single athlete who contributed towards making the day such a memorable one.
